The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) says Nigeria\u00a0remains\u00a0on track to grow crude oil production to two million barrels per day (bpd) by 2027 and three million bpd by 2030.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Mr Udy\u00a0Ntia, Executive Vice President, Upstream, NNPC Ltd., made this known on Monday at the ongoing 2025 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ADIPEC, the world\u2019s largest energy exhibition and conference, is being hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The 41st edition, with the theme \u201cEnergy. Intelligence. Impact\u201d,\u00a0held from Nov. 3 to Nov. 6, brings together international,\u00a0regional\u00a0and local stakeholders across the energy,\u00a0technology\u00a0and finance sectors.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Speaking during the ADIPEC 2025 session \u201cBeyond the Barrel: The Future of Upstream Strategy\u201d,\u00a0Ntia\u00a0said its collaborative upstream growth plan was anchored on technology,\u00a0efficiency\u00a0and decarbonisation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cNigeria\u2019s upstream sector is evolving through a mix of collaboration,\u00a0co-investments\u00a0and smarter capital deployment, rather than competition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIt is not just about producing more oil; it is about producing better oil: more efficient, cleaner and more profitable,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe have the capacity, and we are growing steadily while working together to reduce the strain of fossil fuels.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Ntia\u00a0outlined three key forces shaping the upstream landscape globally and in Nigeria: energy transition pressures, industry\u00a0fragmentation\u00a0and technological inflection points.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He said that innovation, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies, would drive efficiency gains and unlock value from mature fields.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe are seeing technology as an enabler to get more from the ground, improve efficiency, and guide capital decisions. The goal is smarter investment, not just more spending,\u201d he added.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

On energy transition and decarbonisation,\u00a0Ntia\u00a0said that NNPC Ltd and its partners were committed to reducing emissions while\u00a0maintaining\u00a0responsible oil production.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He said that Africa contributed less than three per cent of global emissions, emphasising that \u201cwe can decarbonise and still produce responsibly.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He cited ongoing initiatives such as monetisation and flare reduction through commercial partnerships and regulatory compliance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He also listed major gas pipeline projects, including the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline and links to demand centres in western and northern Nigeria and refinery optimisation and development of hybrid partnerships for co-investment in upstream projects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cCo-investment is the new round of financing. We are stepping in as co-investors to ensure projects are bankable and decisions are made quickly in a rapidly changing environment,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He emphasised a shift toward partnership-driven growth between National Oil Companies (NOCs) and International Oil Companies (IOCs), calling for collaboration over competition.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIOCs are not grabbers; they are partners. We all share the same goal, which is profitability,\u00a0sustainability\u00a0and growth. The real question is how we can increase the size of the pie so that everyone wins,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Ntia\u00a0reaffirmed that Nigeria\u2019s upstream strategy balances energy security, profitability, and climate responsibility, ensuring the nation\u2019s resources\u00a0remain\u00a0relevant in the global energy transition.
